Bombcrater Pond, Walthamstow Marsh

000019

Bombcrater Pond on Walthamstow Marsh was created by the impact of a German V2 missile dropped on Sunday 11th February 1945.  The pond was apparently 55ft in diameter after impact, but has now shrunk to half that, and is thick with reeds and bulrushes, whilst belted cattle graze around its edge.
